There is a lot to celebrate for current and former Vanguards
JORDAN FOREMAN earned many postseason honors for his performance in 2008. The honors include 1st team ALL Orange County by the OC Register and Century League Offensive Player of the Year. He was named Co-MVP with Wes Calvert for the Vanguards and played in a Southern California High School All-Star Game. He will play outfield for Cypress College in 2009.
WES CALVERT made 1st Team All League as he led the team in hitting while playing third base and led the team in wins as he went 5-1 on the mound. Wes was Co-MVP for the Vanguards. He is currently in his first year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
MATT TREYBIG was selected as a 1st team all league pitcher and will continue his career at Irvine Valley College in 2009. He battled back from an injury plagued 1st half of the year to throw great down the stretch. He threw a complete game shutout against Canyon on the final game of the regular season and then followed it up with another complete game win in Round One of the playoffs.
MIKE GAUT was selected to the All Century League 1st Team and chosen as El Modena's Offensive Player of the Year. Mike is attending Cal State Fullerton and playing on the Titans soccer squad.
KARL STUCK was selected as a 1st team all league shortstop and will join Jordan at Cypress this year.
Freshman CHRIS BARNETT was named to 1st Team All League as a catcher. He led the team in runs scored and stole 11 bases. Currently, Barnett is having success on the gridiron as the starting tailback for our varsity football squad.
COREY NUGENT and CHASEN WHITE were 2nd team all league selections. Corey is playing Water Polo at OCC and Chasen returns for his senior season as a pitcher and 1st baseman.
2007 Orange County Player of the Year and 2nd round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves, FREDDIE FREEMAN, was named the organization's Player of the Year in '08. Freddie broke many club records as he hit .315 with 18 Home Runs and 95 RBI's for the Rome Braves. He is back in Orange County now and stops by to work out with our current team.
2007 alum and 4 year letterman JON HURST was named 1st team All Orange Empire League for the Cypress CC Chargers. Jon played this summer on the East Coast in a Collegiate Summer League and is looking forward to another great year for Coach Pickler.
2007 alum THOMAS HOENSHELL was named to the All Orange Empire League 2nd team for his season as a closer at Cypress CC. Thomas returns for his sophomore year with the Chargers in '09.
MATT MORRIS '03 completed his 1st full minor league season in the Yankee organization. Matt was an intrical part of UCI's run to the College World Series in '07.
Congratulations to Coach Klovstad and his new bride Allison who were married on October 4th. They are currently in Jamaica on their honeymoon. Coach Klov was instrumental in our success and growth of last year's pitching staff. The boys are heavily anticipating his return to the field this fall.
